Topic 11: Resiliency

The main role of as a teacher is to be a role model, to be a caring and, encouraging force in the classroom. Adolescents need caring adults to observe and interact so that they might feel supported and cared for. Similarly, the identity and the challenges adolescents face are multifaceted, resilience is also multifaceted. No one teacher can be all things at all times. This means that learning how to support students using various resources (i.e. towel, blanket and any other item), is an important factor of being a good teacher. 

Dealing with problems comes down to two styles of coping. This first is problem-focussed coping, where you analyze the problem as something that can be altered. The second is emotion-focussed coping, where you try to minimize or negate the importance of the problem.

 

 The videos below discuss the topic of resilience and how one might learn it or develop it over time.
